Vote on Polls – Express your opinions on the City Platform

September 3rd, 2008

Long time no blog – so here we are.

We’ve been toying with the idea of creating a common platform for people to express their opinions on matters related to their Cities.  So we thought we’d kick it off in form of Polls.  These Polls aim to capture the general opinion on diverse range of opinions, from City Infrastructure to Educational facilities to Recreation etc.  The idea is to bring to fore a City subject and hear the general viewpoint on the same.

On the same platform, you could also make a comment, and also suggest a poll on any City subject dear to you.  And if your suggested poll is accepted by us, we’d award you 10 Credits. Each time you vote on a poll, you earn 2 credits – the idea is to elicit that valuable opinion of yours, and thus the credits!

Poll: Do you like the idea of City issue based Polls? Yes/No – write to us at info [AT] onyomo.com, not just about your response to this poll, but anything you would like us to know – any feature, service, enhancement you think we should add/remove/..

Contribute to your city, get rewarded

June 12th, 2008

Hi there,

Been a while that I penned down something here.

With rains around, it is a perfect time to let my pen flow!

For months together, we have pondered over how to get people excited about city search. Not just excited but also, how to get people closely attached to their cities. Thoughts and more thoughts, and a few more thoughts. And then it struck. We zeroed in on the idea of giving people credits for every contribution they make to OnYoMo – be it
- writing a review on their favorite joints, or
- voting on a review as a great review or
- inviting their friends to the service

And pretty much anything that people would wanna share with others. We’d shortly be launching a slew of options where users can earn credits. We do want this to be the first-point-of-search for anything in their city.

Well, we know only so much about what is critical to help this system make OnYoMo establish itself as the defacto. But we need to learn so much more. So pls do share your thoughts/inputs/feedback on this – we are all ears!

OnYoMo in more cities, more categories

January 4th, 2008

Hello,

Here is a brief update on what we’ve been upto.

We have extended ourselves to 11 cities now, including:
- Delhi/NCR
- Mumbai
- Bangalore
- Chennai
- Kolkata
- Hyderabad
- Ahmedabad
- Pune
- Jaipur
- Chandigarh
- Goa

There are many more cities coming over the next few months!

In these cities, we’ve attempted to put together some of the categories we felt would be immense use to you. Especially in the shopping section. We’ve added pretty much most brands, and retail chains that are out there. Then we’ve also added categories such as Plumbers, Electricians coz we realized these are the things that you might need day in day out. Then there are the usual Restaurants, Movies, Hotels, Cafes, Hospitals, ATMs, Airlines, Florists etc etc..

Needless to add, we sincerely hope that our users keep contributing to our database, by informing us of the hottest new restaurant that we don’t have, or about any missing chain or category etc.

Look forward to your help in helping us help others in finding what they need!!! Did we hear TMH (too much help ;-) )

Where OnYoMo began?

December 6th, 2006

OnYoMo began where they stopped.

You guys are nuts – this will never take off… No other company has tried this before – why do you want to take this untested path??.. But what would stop any internet biggie to replicate your model overnight.. What are you trying to be – a mix of google, yahoo, ebay or what??.. These and many such comments that our initial discussions and efforts around OnYoMo drew constantly drove us to soulsearch what we were trying to be, and what we wanted to be – they crystallized our thoughts around our objectives.

With a 100+% belief and commitment, an overarching vision and a little cash, two people started this quest to make everyday life better! Aaah…what a grand objective…abstract too!! Underlying thought being “Availability of rich, accurate and timely information gives us higher satisfaction in almost every little thing that we do everyday. It enriches the overall quality of our life.”

Now its a universal truth that 3 is better than 2 – so we got a 3rd member to complete the founding trio that would put the bigger pieces together to weave the OnYoMo canvas. All three – vastly different in style, horrendously passionate, and a bit dreamy – but with that burning desire to translate those dreams…

Set off to do local search on products and services – launched Delhi and Bangalore end of Dec’05. Felt local maps would be a great value add over search results, so added that too. Pls no questions around who designed our UI, how we secured map data, tech etc etc. Wanted to do it..worked really hard and managed to do it (if we did that is!).

Till date, there has been no looking back. Our ambitions have only grown. And OnYoMo has had the fortune of receiving contributions from some really really outstanding and smart team members (OnYoMoites??..Dynamites??!!). Members who uniformly believe(d) in OnYoMo, in its aims. OnYoMo is also truly inspired by positive remarks and constructive feedbacks from thousands of users from hundred different cities all over India!

Till the time OnYoMo continues to receive approval from its user community, the march towards Where OnYoMo belongs will continue!

contd…Where OnYoMo belongs?
